Anti-Scam
Protect Yourself Against Internet Fraud
The vast majority of listings on adspostoday.com are posted by honest individuals and reputable businesses. While you can find excellent deals here, it is important to follow a few common-sense rules to prevent any attempt at scamming.
Our Advice for Safe Trading
-
Meet in Person: Whenever possible, do business with people you can meet in person in a public place.
-
Avoid Anonymous Payments: Never send money via Western Union, MoneyGram, or other anonymous payment systems. These are difficult to track and are favorites for scammers.
-
No International Shipping: Never send money or products abroad. Transactions should ideally remain local.
-
Say No to Checks: Do not accept personal or cashier's checks. They can be easily forged and may bounce weeks after the transaction.
-
Verify the Other Party: Ask for the name, address, and telephone number of the person you are dealing with and verify them through another source.
-
Keep Records: Maintain copies of all correspondence (emails, chat logs, listings, etc.) and the contact details of the person.
-
Trust Your Instincts: If a deal seems too good to be true, it almost certainly is. If you feel uneasy, it is better to refrain from the deal.
How to Recognize a Potential Scam
Most scams share one or more of these common characteristics:
-
Remote Locations: The person claims to be abroad or traveling and cannot meet you.
-
Refusal to Meet: The person refuses to meet in person for any reason.
-
Specific Payment Requests: They insist on payment via Western Union, MoneyGram, or check.
-
Language Barriers: Messages are often written in broken English or seem poorly translated.
-
Canned Responses: The text appears to be "copied and pasted" or looks like a generic template.
-
Unrealistic Prices: The item is priced significantly lower than its market value.
